Travel Chapter partners with The 2 Minute Foundation

Undoubtedly, the UK is such a special holiday destination thanks to the natural beauty of its landscapes and the people who live here. In order to keep it this way, we have a responsibility to the environments in which we live, work and stay.

This year, we are excited to be partnering with The 2 Minute Foundation, to do the right thing in looking after our local towns and villages whilst protecting the environment.

Read on to find out who they are and what our plans are together.

The 2 Minute Foundation

The 2 Minute Foundation is a national charity which encourages everyone to play their part and clean up our planet, 2 minutes at a time. The inception of the charity was as recent as 2019, but the important work was started by founder Martin Dorey in 2007 when he vowed to do something about his local beach when he saw the dire state it was in. The relationship Martin had with his locale would prove to be the spark for major change.

Similarly, the relationship we have with our guests and owners here at Travel Chapter is extremely important to us and we realise, being a juggernaut in the tourism industry, that an influx of holidaymakers can bring with it a flood of litter. We want to inspire change and promote sustainable holidays to encourage everyone to take care of the destinations they visit.

The foundation has supplied us with cleaning stations in the form of litter picking boards, which will raise awareness of litter and plastic pollution, and give people the tools to help clean up their community. There has been a 60% decrease in the amount of litter in some of the places with boards in place, so we want to help!

From spring 2024, we will have litter-picking stations outside ten of our customer-facing offices. These boards will have holidaycottages.co.uk branding and will include litter pickers and reusable refuse sacks, as well as information on what to do with the litter – they can be used time and time again.

Doing the right thing

We’re proud of the partnerships we already maintain and can’t wait to start working with The 2 Minute Foundation. We already work closely with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) to help protect our precious coastlines and raise awareness of important campaigns to improve water quality and protect seagrass habitats.

Added to this, we are always eager to be involved in the MCS’ Beachwatch campaign every September and even take part in our own beach cleans at Westward Ho! Beach in Devon, and Sheringham Beach in Norfolk.

Now that we have the support of The 2 Minute Foundation, our aim is to inspire and encourage our own staff and the local community to care for beaches, streets and public spaces, so we are all armed with the tools to do something good, protect wildlife and keep the area clean.

By having these boards in place for the local community to use, we are ensuring that, through the actions we take and the causes we support, we are making a positive contribution to the communities and environments we operate within. Our own employees can even use their charity days or just their lunch break to clean up their community and be a force for good.
