holidaycottages.co.uk and RSPB partner to restore UK woodland

The Travel Chapter’s flagship brand, holidaycottages.co.uk, is thrilled to be continuing its partnership with the RSPB, teaming up to help restore woodland in 2021.

For every booking made this year, holidaycottages.co.uk will make a donation to the RSPB, allowing the charity to restore one square metre of British woodland per holiday booked.

It’s hoped that this partnership will result in a minimum of 14 hectares of woodland being restored, which could capture up to 3,000 tonnes of carbon – that’s equivalent to the yearly energy emissions of 500 average UK homes*.

The partnership will support the RSPB to plant trees and wildflowers on two sites – RSPB Haweswater and RSPB Glenborrodale – where it can protect native species to safeguard nature for future generations. It will also allow holidaycottages.co.uk customers to feel they have played a part in the restoration of these significant landscapes through booking with the brand.

This nature-saving initiative is the latest in holidaycottages.co.uk’s efforts to promote responsible tourism, chart a more sustainable course for the company, and protect the Great British landscape for future generations to enjoy.

Nicky O’Malley, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the RSPB, commented: “The RSPB is thrilled to be continuing to partner with holidaycottages.co.uk. Through collaborations like this, we are helping to inspire people to protect the natural world in this time of environmental crisis. Working in partnership, we can make a collective difference across the UK and help revive our world.”

Travel Chapter Marketing Director, Matt Brayley, agreed: “We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with the RSPB as we know that now, it is more important than ever that we take action to protect the beautiful landscapes we love. By supporting the charity’s vital conservation works and campaigns throughout the year, we can help to share the message far and wide about how we can best look after – as well as explore and enjoy - our much-loved UK destinations.

Making a donation for every guest’s booking towards vital regeneration works is just the start. Through collaboration, we can play our part in preserving and restoring important landscapes for future generations.”

The RSPB and holidaycottages.co.uk first teamed up in 2019 with a mission to preserve the places we love and save nature together. You can find out more about the partnership here.

*To calculate this figure, we used the methodology and stats from the Woodland Carbon Code to reach the estimated figure of ‘up to 3000 tonnes of carbon’, and statistics from the Energy Saving Trust to show what this is equivalent to in terms of average UK household energy use.
